“it is not taboo to go back and fetch what you forgot”
Rivertree's Sankofa journeys seek to connect with community and learn how to be better neighbors. It's first Sankofa journey began in February 2020 with 20 RV participants going to American South. It returned to American South in 2022 along with Sankofa partners from Sugarland Vineyard Church in Texas and again in 2024, partnering with Absolute Word Church (Denver, CO) and Duke University. Since then, more opportunities have developed to include local North Carolina sites as well as Ghana, Africa. Now, Rivertree is ready to extend an invitation that includes the wider community of Vineyard churches, interested denominations, community leaders, lifelong learners, and anyone who is willing and ready to take part.

Sankofa: American South was the first Sankofa experience at Raleigh Vineyard Church (Now Rivertree Church). Participants travel to various sites that include Edmund Pettis Bridge, Legacy Museum and Memorial, 16th Street Baptist Church, and the National Civil Rights Museum. Cost is $300 per person. Bring a friend, $175 per person.

Durham Cares: Pilgrimmage
The DurhamCares Pilgrimage and Genesis Journey are Sankofa experiences that happen multiple times throughout the year. This experience is like Sankofa: American South in that you will visit sites throughout the weekend. However, the overall experience is more accessible with local sites and lower costs.
